Measurements ...

The liner for the fifa 2006 was "Life in an eight inch diameter ball". The same turned out to be two inches in the final which cost the world cup to France.

During the penalty shoot outs to deicde the world cup winner, the french missed out on an goal by a darn inch. Had Trezeguet managed to push the goal an inch further it would have been a goal.

Likewise, Zidane managed to score a goal on a penalty awarded to the French by a darn inch yet again. The difference being the direction of this inch was towards the goal and in the latter case was away.

The Fifa euphoria pervaded the entire globe and noting the vastness and unity this event had brought with itself, the two inches of difference seems ironic and interesting.
