The Jackal glorification--

The first line of the book "The Day Of The Jackal" by Frederick Forsyth;

It is cold at 6:40 in the morning of a March day in Paris, and seems even colder when a man is about to be executed by firing squad.

The first line istelf is so very captivating, and the entire novel is written the same way.
After reading the book, I couldn't stop myself from gloryfing it.

A secret assasin, the best in the profesion is out to kill the world's most heavily guarded man; the French president. His mission is so secret and professional, that even his employers for this act dont know his name. They only know his code name- The Jackal. The Jackal is so secret and clean that he is not listed in any of the police directory of the world. Till the last page there seems no power on this earth that can stop the Jackal from fulfilling his contract; given that the entire security forces of the world and the Interpol are after him.

The write up is very real and related to real war situations that prevailed in the 1960's over countries like France, UK, Italy etc. Everything is factual and fiction seems completely masked in the story. All the organizations which existed during those times like OAS, DTS, CRS, Union Corse etc are an integral part of the story. Hence the story also provided a factual insight into the war related situations that imbued over countries at that time. All the police forces of the world unite to hunt down a single man investing all the power that they can. Professionalism, in either of the areas of the assasin and the law keepers was unmatched and perfectly perfect.

After seeing through the last page, I felt all the other great thriller, suspense novels may seem like a Hardy boys or Famous Five fiction to me.

P.S. Maybe the last paragraph was a hyperbole, but right now I am too mesmerised to think anything better.

Hi,
I want to add that the research done by Forsyth is sooo real that the description used by him of how the Jackal gets a fake passport exposed an existing loophole in the British system. The Govt. realised it after he published it in his book.

Cool na...
